Soweto Wine Festival

Starts  : 02 September 2005 Ends    : 04 September 2005

The Soweto Wine Festival is a Soweto-based initiative whose main objectives are to create, identify, enhance and manage investment opportunities in the field of tourism and hospitality in the township of Soweto.

Location : Ubuntu Kraal, Orlando West Ext., Soweto

Description :
The Cape Wine Academy has been approached to work with them in organising and promoting wine into Soweto through this initiative.

We are very excited by this venture, which gives the wine industry an opportunity of reaching people in a familiar venue in their own town. The festival is looking to attract 3,600 - 4,200 individuals over the three days (1,200 - 1,400 individuals per day).

VENUE
Ubuntu Kraal is a thatched conference centre situated in Orlando West Ext, and is secure and safe, with both private security and the police in attendance, while not impacting on the tasting experience. There is sufficient space for 50 tables within the main hall, and there are six gondolas, each of which can hold four tables.

WHEN
The inaugural Soweto Wine Festival coincides with the 100 year centenary of Soweto and will be held during September, Heritage month.

The show will run from:
17h30 - 21h00 Friday 2nd September, 2005
17h30 - 21h00 Saturday 3rd September, 2005
15h00 - 18h30 Sunday 4th September, 2005*

*These times have been liaised with the Soweto Wine Festival partners, who feel that individuals like to go out after lunch on a Sunday, the main day for entertainment.

Although wine may not be part of the local heritage, we are hoping that wine consumption will grow from strength to strength once the wine festival becomes part of the annual calendar of events. Increased too, by the wine courses that the Cape Wine Academy will be conducting in Soweto in the future.

PRICE
Each stand within the main hall R3,750.00 incl. vat
Gondola (four stands) R14, 000.00 incl. vat

Each stand will receive:

Two tasting glasses, parking tickets and name badges
Table with white table cloth (and skirts), one chair
Water, ice buckets, ice and spittoons
Water biscuits
PARKING AND TRANSPORT

Exhibitor parking is available manned by full time private security. For those who do not wish to take their vehicles into Soweto, a shuttle service will operate from Gold Reef City to the venue.

There will also be adequate staff to replenish wines, empty spittoons and assist in any way. Stock control will be handled by professionals, wines delivered prior to the show on Thursday, will be secure and maintained at the correct temperatures - large refrigeration containers and fridges will be on site for the whites, and an air conditioned facility for the red wines.

Decoration of each stand would be the responsibility of the producer, while the gondolas would provide additional exposure for displays etc. Please remember however, that this is an open thatch building, so there may not necessarily be a wall behind each stand.

We look forward to your response and working with you during the Soweto Wine Festival.
