Finirà il 19 maggio la moratoria europea sugli Ogm

La Commissione Europea deciderà il prossimo 19 maggio di togliere la moratoria sugli organismi geneticamente modificati, autorizzando la commercializzazione del mais transgenico Bt 11 prodotto dalla multinazionale svizzera Syngenta. Il portavoce del commissario all’alimentazione David Byrne ha infatti detto che "la questione è all’ordine del giorno della Commissione".

La decisione era comunque nell’aria, dopo l’approvazione della nuova direttiva che impone di indicare sull’etichetta se un prodotto alimentare è transgenico o contiene ingredienti geneticamente modificati. Solo quattro commissari su trenta sembrano opporsi a questa decisione ma sembra che l’idea prevalente sia un'altra. "Abbiamo passato gli ultimi quattro anni a rinforzare il sistema legislativo e ora dobbiamo assumerci delle responsabilità " ha detto il portavoce.

La decisione spetta alla Commissione perché i ministri dell’Agricoltura dell’Unione non sono riusciti a prendere una posizione chiara in merito. A favore erano l’Irlanda, la Gran Bretagna, i Paesi Bassi, la Svezia, la Finlandia e l’Italia, mentre Germania, Belgio e Spagna si erano astenuti. Gli ultimi sei, cioè Francia, Austria, Lussemburgo, Danimarca, Portogallo e Grecia avevano invece votato contro.
